Facing North:

You're seeing Esopus Island, the wooded western shore of Ulster County, hills around Esopus and Shaupeneak Ridge, and the distant Catskills. Mount St. Alphonsus (now Mount Academy / The Mount Community) is the castle like structure behind the island.

Facing South:

You're seeing the wooded Ulster County shoreline, Black Creek Preserve, the rolling Marlborough Mountains, and Illinois Mountain rising in the distance. This area is a deepwater anchorage for commercial vessels.
