PYC 2016 Regatta Recap

On Saturday September 17th the annual regatta sailed back to PYC on a stiff southerly breeze. The 10 minute warning sounded at 1330 hours after a short briefing on the course by Kurt Worell. The first boat across the starting line was Lionheart with Bill Spencer and Bill Washburn onboard. Once they rounded the southern mark, all boats made a speedy downwind leg to the Esopus Meadows Light house and then returned to the start/finish line on windward tacks. Once again Lionheart crossed the line first but with corrected times they were out paced by the next boat by mere seconds. The second boat across the line was skippered by Guenther May. Close behind were Jeff and Karen Kimma with a finish that had the race committee on their feet. The rest of the fleet consisted of: 1.Ernie Klopping with his crew mate Tom Ostrofsky.2. Nick Rebraca with a shanghaied crew of Scott Shure on a 37 foot Hunter named “Caviar”. 3. Tim and Victoria Kane on their 26 foot “Summer Wind”. Also out sailing, cheering on the race boats but not racing were the Fritz’s and Stirzel’s. It should be pointed out that Ernie’s boat has only been in the water for a week as he is recovering from knee surgery. After the race participants and crews gathered for the results and a covered dish dinner. Many thanks to Pete Carr and Paul Delano for putting out and collecting the marks and Dennis Giglio for the use of his boat as a committee boat. Submitted by Greg Smith.
